West Bristol Arts

West Bristol Arts was set up in October 2007 by four local residents (Julia Killingback, Fiona Willis, Deb Pearson and Anna Wilson) in response to requests from artists and community members in Clifton, Cliftonwood and Hotwells to have a local art trail.

The first West Bristol Art Trail took place in October 2008 and was set up by local volunteers in response to requests from artists and the wider community for a local art trail. It is hoped the trail will eventually develop into a regular annual event for the whole community and will serve to bring together all local creatives, residents, traders, visitors to the area and of course, art lovers – to celebrate the quality and diversity of creativity in west Bristol.

Most of the work put into making the trail happen is undertaken by local volunteers with many of the exhibiting artists contributing their time and skills to help set it up - making it a true community event. It’s amazing what can be achieved with a little time and a little love.

The organisers are always looking for volunteers to help co-ordinate the event and for as many artists as possible to take part, so if you would like to get involved next year, please get in touch.

Hotwells and Cliftonwood Community Association

In 2008, the West Bristol Art Trail was supported, administered and co-ordinated by the HCCA. Hotwells and Cliftonwood Community Association exists to represent the views and opinions of local people to other organizations such as the local council.  Three times per year, we produce a community newsletter that goes to 2000+ households in the local area.  We support and promote local events such as Art on the Railings and the Open Air Cinema in argyle place.  We support other local groups such as CHASE (Clifton and Hotwells action for a sustainable environment) and community links.

The HCCA have also supported the 2009 trail by providing accounting services, a postal address and considerable admin support.

CHIS has generously sponsored aspects of the 2008 & 2009 Trail. The Clifton and Hotwells Improvement Society, popularly known as CHIS, was founded in 1968 and now has well over 1,100 members. Its main aims are to improve the amenities of the area, to preserve the best features and to maintain the quality of life within the area.

CHIS covers the diverse area of urban Bristol 8 which includes Hotwells, North Clifton, Cliftonwood, the west of Whiteladies Road and Clifton Village.
