West Bristol Arts
West Bristol Arts was set up in October 2007 by four local residents (Julia Killingback, Fiona Willis, Deb Pearson and Anna Wilson) in response to requests from artists and community members in Clifton, Cliftonwood and Hotwells to have a local art trail. They hope the Trail will develop into a great annual community event for the area, bringing together artists, local people and visitors. The trail is self-funded, and many of the exhibiting artists have contributed their skills and time to help set it up.
In the future we hope West Bristol Arts will flourish into a lively artists’ network supporting exhibitions, West Bristol Art Trail and community arts projects.
Hotwells and Cliftonwood Community Association
In its first year, the West Bristol Art Trail has been supported, administered and co-ordinated by the HCCA. Hotwells and Cliftonwood Community Association exists to represent the views and opinions of local people to other organizations such as the local council. Three times per year, we produce a community newsletter that goes to 2000+ households in the local area. We support and promote local events such as Art on the Railings and the Open Air Cinema in argyle place. We support other local groups such as CHASE (Clifton and Hotwells action for a sustainable environment) and community links. Finally, we run a number of small one-off projects in response to local demand and Kick Off youth theatre on a Monday night during term time.
CHIS has generously sponsored aspects of the Trail. The Clifton and Hotwells Improvement Society, popularly known as CHIS, was founded in 1968 and now has well over 1,100 members. Its main aims are to improve the amenities of the area, to preserve the best features and to maintain the quality of life within the area.
CHIS covers the diverse area of urban Bristol 8 which includes Hotwells, North Clifton, Cliftonwood, the west of Whiteladies Road and Clifton Village.
